For Haasnoot’s regulars it has been hard to miss. We’ve expanded our activities into the realm of food with a lunchroom. Responsible for everything edible is the Den Haag native company of Zebedeus. With their versatile and pure dishes they’ve made Zebedeus@Just cafe a beloved destination for breakfast lunch and drinks.
And naturally, everything designed for the cafe is from our drawing boards!
The plate steel kitchen is the center of the cafe. And for the kitchen absolutely everything is considered. A glass display for cakes, treats and fresh produce. A rack to store wine glasses upside down that also becomes a decorative element above the bar. The welds on the steel plates form a grid visually connecting the separate volumes of the kitchen.
The functionality of the kitchen was our main concern. Because space is limited and Zebedeus still has to prepare and finish a number of dishes on the spot every square inch is vital. It made us come up with smart solutions, like the placing of open cupboards toward the space to store the tableware. Thereby also showcasing the specially designed ceramics by the Intuitiefabriek
The entrance to the cafe and thereby our store has had a rigorous make over. We wanted new restrooms and for that the old stairs had to go. In it’s place we put something we had been dreaming about for a while: a steel spiral staircase with a closed of railing. An element that looks simple and archetypal, but was quite a challenge to put together. The steps of the helix had to be calculated and produced beforehand, while the steel railing was bent and installed on the spot.
This geometrical and impressive object created space for an organic wood cladded volume housing the restrooms, which we colored deep petrol and red in a monochrome on the inside.
Central to the cafe has stayed the concrete fireplace by Weltevree, where you can now sit around and enjoy one of the many treats we have to offer.
