@just.haasnoot: Another element we designed for the old Leiden mansion is this bespoke pantry: cobalt blue steel kitchen fronts and a thin stainless steel top, decorated with the clients collection of saints statues. A perfect combination of classical and contemporary design . They view their business in the first place as a grave responsibility. Maruni wood industries has been taking on the noble task of translating Japanese craftsmanship into industrial products since 1928. Their products aim to represent the intrinsic values of Japanese design and be modern and forward looking at the same time. That is quite a promise already and then on top of that they pledge to take care of the environment and their position in society as well.
It results in elegant products, delicate and functional at the same time. Muruni often teams up with international designers to reimagine their Japanese heritage.
One of the designs we have in our showroom is the Hiroshima Dining chair by Naoto Fukasawa. Fukasawa collaborated with Jasper Morrison and designed for Artek and B&B Italia.
The Hiroshima dining chair embodies his ideal of ‘thoughtless design’ In the sense that it invites you to touch (who wouldn’t want to let their hand stroke that rounded back?) and in being intuitive and hard to pin down in words.
